The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) believes that skier Asa Miller’s participation in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics will provide pride and inspiration to Filipinos.

The 21-year-old Filipino-American qualified for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games late last year in two alpine skiing’s events for his second stint in the biggest winter sporting event.

“We wish Asa Miller good luck. The PSC is supporting her participation to the Winter Olympics and we hope that he comes back enriched with experience,” Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman William Ramirez said.

“It is such a pride to be represented in the Winter Olympics even though we are a tropical country.”

Ramirez and the PSC commissioners granted the Philippine delegation’s financial assistance for the winter Olympics campaign worth P3.3 million.

“We are seeking the inspiration of the whole archipelago to pray for Asa Miller and the delegation under CDM [Chef de Mission] Bones Floro,” Ramirez added, who also thanked Asa’s parents for their all-out support knowing that winter sports are very expensive.

Kelly Miller, the father of Asa, and Filipina mother Polly Bisquera, are very supportive to Miller’s campaign abroad since competing in his first Olympics four years ago in Pyeongchang South Korea Winter Games.

Chef de Mission Bones Floro and athletes welfare officer Joebert Yu are now setting up the athlete’s headquarter at the Yanqing Olympic Village as they anticipate the arrival of Miller, his father Kelly and Philippine Ski Snowboard Federation (PSSF) President Jim Palomar Apelar on Monday morning.

“We are taking care of everything as we anticipate the arrival of Asa Miller and his team,” Floro said, whose Philippine delegation underwent strict health protocol at the Beijing International AirPort before taking a two-hour drive to the Yanqing district.

Miller and the rest aboard via Japan Airlines will be arriving on Monday early morning.
