Cayetano to form a crisis committee for SEA Games

Organizers need to prepare for unexpected situations that may arise during the 30th Southeast Asian Games.

Philippine SEA Games Organizing Committee chairman and House Speaker Allan Peter Cayetano said this after attending the fourth Team Philippines Coordination meeting at the Philippine International Convention Center.

“It’s actually a refinement of the organizational chart. Part of the plan of any multisport event like this, dahil sa dami ng pinagdaanan,” said Cayetano.

Cayetano explained that a crisis committee will be assembled to address certain issues should situations involving venues, equipment and accommodation arise during the meet, which is set to be staged from Nov. 30 to Dec. 10.

The solon from Taguig explained many situations involving the Games have arisen considering the Games’ budget of around P6-billion was released four months late, and some questions concerning the procurement need to be addressed.

Of the budget that has been released, around P441-million has been allocated for sports equipment.

So far, PHISGOC executive director Tom Carrasco said that of the 61 equipment requested that were made since January, 18 have already been completed last February, while 25 others will be completed by the end of the day, Sept. 13, Friday.

The other requests will be tackled and finalized by Monday or Tuesday next week.

“Around 25 requests will be completed today. Kayang-kaya iyun,” said Carrasco.

On the other hand, Ramirez said they are continuously finding solutions to the many venue needs of the Games.

“We have 117 days to go. We still have to find very good solutions to venue alternatives, at in case hindi makakuha ng venues para sa ibang events,” said Ramirez.

The Phisgoc is now addressing details concerning the ticketing, accommodation, venues, transportation, logistics and the sports that will be played.

So far, minor hitches on completion of venue requirements are being donet in weightlifting, squash, kickboxing, skateboard and obstacle sports were addressed.

The Phisgoc Executive Board will appoint its own point person to help hasten procurement of vital equipment.

Ramirez, also the Chef de Mission of Team Philippines, said that should any mistake or lapses arise, the PSC will be there to make sure that everything will be in place for the hosting of the 11-nation meet, with barely two months away before the big event.
