2 PH archers make finals of Asia Cup

Paul Marton Dela Cruz and Andrea Robles made it into the men’s and women’s compound finals at the Asia Cup Leg 3 last Wednesday in Clark, Pampanga.

Dela Cruz, the country's top bet and is seeded third after the qualification phase, outscored two Australians, 14th seed Hassy Sfar, 145-139, and 6th seed Jersey Liu, 146-141, before besting second seed Sharizan Jafar of Malaysia, 146-143 in the semifinals.

He will now seed the gold medal when the 2014 Asian Games bronze medallist takes on top seed Mohd Juwaldi Mazuki, who is part of the 2017 Southeast Games team champion Malaysia .

Mazuki earlier eased out national bet Johan Olano, 149-142, his teammate Zulfadhil Rualan and fourth seed Sirapop Chainak of Thailand.

His entry into the semifinals also gave De la Cruz a chance to seek a repeat of his individual gold medal win last year.

Robles, on the other hand, prevailed over teammate Rachelle Ann Dela Cruz in the semis, 144-140 points.

Robles is ranked 7th, while Rachelle is 6th, after both sumbitted the same a 680-point score in the qualification round.

To reach the semis, Robles won over 10th seed Contezza Loh Tze Chieh of Singapore, 144-135, then turned back 15th seed Ting Wang Yi of Chinese Taipeh, 145-144.
