Filipino bet Kareel Hongitan stayed in contention for an Olympic berth.

Hongitan advanced into the last 32 of the women’s individual recurve after beating two rivals in the 2019 Hyundai World Archery Championships in the city of ‘s-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands.

According to the tournament’s official website, the 79th seeded Hongitan got past her first two matches in the Olympic Round.

And this made her the last remaining bet of the five-man national recurve squad.

The 21-year-old Hongitan upset 34th seed Melanie Gaubil of France, 6-2.

Hongitan, who came up with her best finish in a world level competition was 9th during the 2015 World Cup in Shanghai, will now test her skills against multi World Cup gold medalist, an Olympic bronze winner, and second seed Lei Chie Ying,

Lei is also from Chinese Taipei.

Hongitan is looking forward to entering the semifinals.

If she is able to do this, Hongitan will earn and Olympic berth to next year’s Tokyo Games.
