THE 3rd Plaridel Cup golf tournament of the Association of Philippine Journalists (Samahang Plaridel) tees off today at the Wack Wack golf course in Mandaluyong, with Rep. Robert “Ace” Barbers, Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez  and Wack Wack Golf and Country Club president Benjamin Abalos doing the ceremonial tee-off.

Samahang Plaridel chairman Crispulo “Jun” Icban (of Manila Bulletin), president Rolando Estabillo (of Manila Standard) and other association officers will be welcoming the media-golfers and their friends when the tournament tees off at 8 a.m.

More than 50 golfers have registered, vying for bragging rights and special prizes including round-trip Philippine Airlines tickets at the awarding ceremony. Last year’s overall champion Jun Aquino, who fired a net 69 at Wack Wack is expected to defend his title.

A hole-in-one on Hole no. 11 will win a brand-new golf cart.

The 18-hole friendly but highly competitive tournament seeks to foster camaraderie among the participants while raising funds for various Samahang Plaridel projects.
