A FILIPINO has been appointed as Chairman of the Urban Cluster Committee for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
International Olympic Committee representative to the Philippines Mikee Cojuangco-Jaworski will fill this position, according to IOC officials in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Cojuangco-Jaworski immediately left for Lausanne to participate in the initial meeting of the Commission, which will decide on the clustering of venues for new sports like the 3×3 basketball, skateboarding and sports climbing.
She is in a five-member body that will make sure events are more youth-oriented and dynamic.
“This marks the first time that IOC created an Urban Cluster group, so I have no comparison. But knowing how innovative the IOC members are, I have no doubt that this will benefit all,” said Cojuangco-Jaworski in a statement.
She added that she is hoping the committee’s efforts will keep the sports involved more exciting and relevant to the youth.
Cojuangco-Jaworski will also attend the presentation of the Evaluation Commission for the 2024 Olympics from July 9 and 10.
