Speed is Buntan’s top weapon

Speed has always been a plus for rising Muay Thai star Jackie Buntan.

Since she was a kid, the 24-year-old Buntan said she has made strides to master this ability in her bag of tricks.

“When I was a kid, it was a disadvantage when it comes to committing. Now, I’m older, it’s with more practice, (it’s done) with more power, plus precision. Now, it’s with time coming all together,” said the 5’4” Buntan.

Buntan said this after she came out with a  unanimous decision win over Argentina’s Daniela Lopez in the strawweight division of the ONE: Empower at the Singapore Indoor Stadium last Friday.

The Southern California-born Buntan has now improved her overall  career win-loss record to  23-5 in stopping the Argentine.

Lopez, on the other hand, now has a  7-4 slate.

“I always had speed when I started out,” added Buntan.

After making her ONE debut early this year, Buntan has gone 3-0, earlier beating Thailand’s Wondergirl Fairtex in February and Russia’s Ekaterina Vandaryeva in April.

During the Friday fight, Buntan displayed speed and agility as she took control of her fight with Lopez in all the three rounds.

And it was Buntan’s  solid right hand straights and stinging right leg kicks that stung her opponent.
