Playing against the TNT Tropang Giga in the semifinals will make Phoenix Super LPG a better team.

Phoenix coach Topex Robinson said this after the Super LPG got past the Magnolia Hotshots, 89-88, Saturday evening in the 2020 Philippine Basketball Association Philippine Cup at the Angeles University Foundation Sports Arena & Cultural Center Powered by Smart 5G.

“At this point, we’re just happy to be here. The more we play the best team, the better it is for us,” said Robinson in a post-game huddle on Zoom.

The Super LPG, who start playing their best-of-five playoff series against Tropang Giga on Wednesday, grew confident after they snapped the six-game winning streak of the Hotshots to make it to the semis.

They banked on Matthew Wright’s late triple to win it for the Super LPG.

“We’ll always be the best versions of ourselves, and we’re gonna take our chances against TNT,” said Robinson.

The Super LPG trailed by two with the clock winding down.

Wright became the hero of the game when he sank a running one-legged three-point shot with 9.8 seconds to go.

“That’s just something special. That’s something magical because the Hotshots were focusing their defense on Matt,” said Robinson, who followed advise not to bring in Wright as a starter.

Wright went on to tally 32 points, including five treys, five rebounds and nine assists.

In this game, Phoenix went 15-of-36 from the three-point area, which was better than their norm of 13 made shots out of 38 attempts.
