Paul Lee: Veteran presence

Lee may not have scored much, but his inside presence is still appreciated as the Hotshots went on to deal the Brgy. Ginebra San Miguel Gin Kings their first loss the 2020 Philippine Basketball Association Philippine Cup, 102-92.

“On Paul Lee, it’s all about mental toughness. Ito ang mataas sa kanya. He is our leader. Even if he does not score in double digits, okay kami. Basta, ang leadership niya ay nandoon,” said coach Chito Victolero after the Hotshots’ encounter at the Angeles University Foundation Arena in Angeles City, Pampanga.

Lee finished with 15 markers, including a long triple against Scottie Thompson to give the Hotshots a 10-point spread, 10, 99-89, with 58 ticks left in the fourth.

Jackson Corpuz led the team in scoring with 20 points, while Mark Barroca added 15 points and Ian Sangalang submitted 14 markers and 8 caroms.

Victolero said the veterans responded well when he discussed their situation coming into the game.

“I challenged them that this is the real bounce-back game that we could do to get back in the (standings), to go back to where we could go. The veterans Paul Lee, Rafi Reavis, Mark Barroca, Ian Sangalang stepped up. We just needed to enjoy,” added Victolero.

The Hotshots went on to earn their second win in six games.

The Gin Kings, with Stanley Pringle showing the way with 24 points, suffered their first loss in five outings and are behind the unbeaten TNT Tropang Giga.
