Fans, who watched the women’s basketball game between Thailand and Malaysia in the ongoing Southeast Asian Games should have been impressed by the cat-quick point guard of Thailand, her three-point shooting and playmaking style.

Tiffany Bias

She’s one of the reasons why the Thais are favored to march all the way to the finals.

The player is Tiffany Bias, a legitimate WNBA player now showing her basketball skills in the SEA Games for the first time.

This is the first time, too, that she is  playing for the national team of Thailand, although she has been staying  there and training with the national team for quite some time.

The 27-year-old Thai-American, a product of Andover Central in Kansas and the Oklahoma State University, has already played for three WNBA teams.

Bias was drafted as the 17th pick in the second round by Phoenix. During her rookie year, the team won the WNBA crown, with Bias staying on for two years before moving to Dallas and then New York.

Although she is presently a free agent, Bias, in between WNBA seasons, has also brought her skills in Hungary and Israel, and now to Thailand.

In an interview at the Mall of Asia Arena, while she was watching the Thailand-Malaysia men’s game, she described the competition at the SEA Games as aggressive.

“All the teams want to win medals. Of course, our team will be in the finals,” said Bias, who is also into modeling and sideline reporting in Dallas.

When asked what she thinks of the Philippine team which she will be playing against for the first time, Bias replied: “You have some bigs and your girls are scrappy, but we can compete with them. My confidence level in my teammates is high and we came here for the gold. That’s it.”

She may be biased for the Thais, but Bias is ready to deliver on her promise.
