Southeast Asian Games double-gold medallist Kristina Knott is joining her second outdoor competition this year — the Pure Athletics Spring Invitational in Clermont, Florida on Sunday (Monday in Manila).
Her stint in Clermont comes after Knott collected a silver medal in the 93rd Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin Texas last week.
This time, the Filipino-American track star will join two events, the women’s 100-meter and 200-meter sprints.
While in Austin, Knott clocked 11.54 seconds in the women’s 100-meter invitational, finishing behind gold medal winner Kiara Parker.
This still put the current Philippine national record holder in the women’s 200-meter run within range of the 11.15-second qualification time.
Parker, a bronze medallist in the 2019 World Athletics Championships’ 4×100-meter relays, came close to the Olympic qualifying time with her 11.2-second performance.
Coached by Rohsaan Griffin, Knott would hopefully do better this time.
Knott eclipsed the Philippine national mark in the women's 100-meter run during the star-studded Drake Blue Oval Showcase meet at Drake Stadium in August.
Her time of 11.27 seconds bettered the record of Lydia de Vega-Mercado back in 1997.
But it remains unrecognized by the Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association because of a tailwind of 1.5 meters per second that was measured during the event.
With this, the 23.01-second clocking that she did in the women’s 200-meter event in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games stands as one of two national records Knott is credited for breaking.
