Knott kicks off Olympic bid into overdrive in Florida tilt

Filipino-American track star Kristina Knott is in great shape and will only in one event when she begins her outdoor campaign and quest for an Olympic qualifying slot this weekend.

Kristina Knott wants to qualify in both the 100 and 200-meters of the Olympic Games.

The 25-year-old Knott will run in the women’s 100-meter sprints and won’t be joining any other race during the Texas Relays in Austin on March 27.

That’s because Knott needs to lighten up before she goes into tougher meets in the days ahead.

“We will not double the first competition because we are coming off of a heavy training load three weeks prior so she needs to de-load,” said Knott’s coach Rohsaan Griffin to the Manila Standard.

Knott will have a more demanding schedule when she sees action on April 3 in the Pure Athletics meet in Clairemont, Florida, where Griffin intends to put her not just in the 200-meter, but also in the 100-meter sprints.

“She will be running the both the 100 and 200 the following week in Clermont , Florida. After all, we are focusing on qualifying in two events not just one,” added Griffin.

Knott is focused on her qualification for the Tokyo Olympics.

She distinguished herself after breaking the Philippine national records in the women’s 200-meter and 100-meter set by Lydia de Vega.

This time, Knott has also been training with strength and conditioning coach Carlo Buzzichelli in Orlando, Florida.

A week after the Clairemont event, Knott plunges into action in the Miramar Invitational in Florida, before joining a still to be determined high-level competition in Gainesville, University of Florida on April 17, possibly both the 100m and 200m.

Knott then rounds out her tough stretch on May 13 in the 10th Savona International Meeting Area Permit European Athletics in Savona, Italy, where she may join the 100 or 200 or both.
