Eric Cray sets his sights on Tokyo Olympics.

Cray, who is preparing to seek qualification in the men’s 400-meter hurdles, has restarted his bid by joining a series of outdoor meets in the United States.

Philippine Athletics Track and Field chief Philip Ella Juico said he has been informed by Cray of his bid in a phone conversation this week.

“I  intend to get into race shape early to qualify,” said Cray in his talks with Juico.

On Jan. 24, Cray will be at the KMS Invitational in Birmingham, Alabama Metro Cross Plex, where a big number of elite athletes and Olympic aspirants are expected.

After that, Cray returns to Birmingham for the KMS Open on January 31.

“Cray’s outdoor schedule is pretty much tentative since many last-minute changes take place,” said Juico.

Cray’s campaign also includes plans to join the Prairie View A&M University  Relays in Prairie, Texas.

After this, Cray will take part in the University of Texas-El Paso Relays, if all goes according to plan.

“From thereon, anything can happen,” said Juico.

Cray did not see much action last season because of strict coronavirus lockdowns around Texas. But there were improvements in his speed during his first race in the 2020 outdoor season on February 13, 2020, when he came up with a personal best of 47.8 seconds in an indoor meet in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
