OLYMPIC silver medalist Nesthy Petecio hopes to get back in fighting form again in time for a series of competitions starting next month.

The Asian Under-22 Championship in Thailand is set for Jan. 16 to 27 in Thailand, and Petecio could find herself in the list of Filipino fighters, who could be sent there.

“Wala pa pong listahan kung sino ang pupunta. Pero naghahanda na rin ako,” said the 30-year-old Petecio in an interview with the Manila Standard.

Petecio, a Tokyo Olympics’ silver medalist, was recently among the guests of honor at the 2022 Batang Pinoy in Vigan, Ilocos Sur.

She said she continues to remain in fighting form, thanks to the inspiration given her by Tokyo Olympic Games’ gold winner Hidilyn Diaz-Naranjo, who recently captured two gold medals at the World Weightlifting Championships in Colombia.

“Siya ang nagbigay ng inspirasyon sa akin at pinukaw niya ulit ang init ng puso ko sa sports at sinabi ko na kung kaya ni Hidilyn, kaya ko din,” added the ‘energized’ Petecio.

Her next international meet could come two months after Petecio lost to Kazakhstan’s Karina Ibragimova, 5-0, in their 2022 ASBC Asian Elite Men & Women Boxing Championships women’s 57kg featherweight division semifinal clash in Amman, Jordan.

After settling for the bronze medal back then, Petecio continued to remain in shape for a busy year in 2023.

Competitions in Women’s World Championships in March and the Southeast Asian Games from May 5 to 17 are also in store for Petecio.

After that, the Huangzhou Asian Games set from September 23 to October 8, is also being arranged for the multi-titled Filipina boxer.
