Manila Mayor Moreno inducts wushu officials

Members of the PWCCA Board of Directors were inducted into the office recently by the Manila Mayor Francisco ‘Isko Moreno’ Domagoso.

Ong, a businessman-patron, who engaged in martial arts during his years as a student, was elected to a two-year term as the president of the PWCCA for 2020-2021.

The second personality to be elected president of the association,  Ong is expected to uplift the standard of the martial arts of wushu at the high school and university levels with various competitions in the drawing boards.

Aside from Ong, elected as members of the PWCCA Board of Directors are Gladys Carrascoso Sia as vice president; Sean Elijah Wico Siy as Secretary General; Abigail Faniega as Treasurer; Directors’ Sherwin John Bromajon, Czarina Joy Hagos, Jomar Balangui, and Edmundo ‘Eddie’ Ang.

Abe Lim, the first PWCCA president, was represented in the courtesy call to  Mayor Moreno by FESSAP Corporate  Secretary Cecil Sarmiento.

The PWCCA was established in 2017 during FESSAP’s participation that year in the Taipei Summer Universiade, where Balangui of the University of Baguio brought home a silver medal for the Philippines in the wushu competitions.

Balangui has since been elected a member of the PWCCA Board of Directors, supervising activities in the Cordillera Administrative Region. 

The PWCCA is recognized by the Federation of School Sports Association of the Philippines, which runs the national university sports competition in the Philippines and is a voting member of the International University Sports Federation, the world governing body for university sports which sanctions such Olympic-style spectacles like the Summer Univrsiade and Winter Universiade. The next Summer Universiade will be held in Chengdu, China from Aug. 8 to 19, 2021.

FESSAP president Angel Ngu and FESSAP Chairman of the Board Alvin Tai Lian will formally recognize the newly elected members of the PWCCA Board on Feb. 12 during the annual FESSAP Board of Trustees meeting. Yatai International Corporation Chief Executive Officer Yang Hua Hong of Omni Electrical & Lighting, the main sponsor of the Philippine delegation to the 18th Gymnasiade in Jinjiang, sent a congratulatory message to Ong and his Board members. The PWCCA is tasked to organize high school competitions under the directive of the Philippine Inter-School Sport Association, which is a regular member of the International School Sport Federation, the sanctioning body for the 18th Gymnasiade 2020, also known as the 18th World School Summer Games 2020.
