Bo Perasol remains as coach of the University of the Philippines men’s basketball team.

UP College of Human Kinetics Dean Francisco “Kiko” Diaz said this to clarify reports that Perasol’s contract was not renewed by the school when it expired last June 10.

“UP has formal processes in selecting varsity coaches. Right now, coach Bo is still the UPMBT head coach and he has not resigned,” said Diaz in a statement.

Word was out that the school was working on giving Perasol a managerial position once his contract is finished.

Perasol has been calling the shots for the Fighting Maroons since 2016.

With Perasol calling the shots, the Fighting Maroons experienced their best season in 2018 and 2019.

UP placed third in the eliminations with their 9-5 win-loss record in 2019

The Fighting Maroons then made it to the Final Four, before bowing to the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers.

In 2018, UP reached the finals and fought the Ateneo Blue Eagles, who won the crown following a 3-0 sweep of the Maroons.

Perasol is currently with his family and mourning the death of his mother due to COVID-19.

“Lastly, the entire UP community (officials, varsity program, UP MBT, and the alumni) is bereaving with Coach Bo on the recent passing of his mother due to COVID-19,” added Diaz.
