Knights stop Cardinals; Eagles beat SJC Bulacan

The Letran Knights and the First City Providential College of Bulacan Eagles prevailed over separate foes over the weekend in the 16th Fr. Martin Cup Division 2 basketball tournament.

Jap Paambid and King Caralipio drilled in big baskets that lifted the Letran Knights to a 88-83 triumph over the Mapua Cardinals at the St. Placid gymnasium inside San Beda-Manila campus in Mendiola.

Ken Laquibla struck with 31 points for the Eagles as they toppled St. Joseph College-Bulacan, 103-91.

Pambid and Caralipio banged in 23 and 17 points to lead the Knights to their second straight win in the senior division.

The Knights, who had earlier prevailed over the Arellano Chiefs, 75-69, are now on top of Group B.

This puts the Knights in contention for a quarterfinals seat, according to commissioner Robert de la Rosa.

On the other hand, the Eagles, who also got 20 points from John Bravo, earned win no. 3 in Group A of the junior side.

The Eagles share the lead with the La Consolacion College Junior Royals, who smashed the Diliman Preparatory School Baby Blue Dragons, 68-42.

The Chiang Kai Shek College Blazing Dragons soared to their fourth straight victory also in Group B after they won over Paco Catholic Academy Foundation, 89-80.

The San Beda Taytay Red Cubs, led by JR Gloria with 15 points, now have a 1-1 slate in the junior action after they won over San Beda-Manila, 84-57.”‹ “‹
