The defending champion Letran Knights will need to minimize their turnovers in their next games.
Coach Rensy Bajar said this after the Knights absorbed a 79-85 setback at the hands of the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers on Sunday in their opening game in the 99th National Collegiate Athletic Association men’s basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.
“Iyung turnovers namin, 29, na nakaapekto sa amin. Pero, na-sustain naman namin ang dapat namin na ma-sustain,” said Bajar.
Kurt Reyson did well for the Knights, coming off the bench to lead the Knights with 18 points.
But defense on their outside shooter Deo Cuajao slowed them and forced them to a lot of turnovers.
“Medyo hindi kasi makuha ni Kurt ‘yung timing niya and at the same time, maganda ‘yung nilalaro ni Deo so binigyan namin ng chance si Deo talaga,” added Bajar.
The Knights will try to bounce back when they meet the Lyceum Pirates on Wednesday at the FilOil-EcoOil Arena in San Juan.
The Knights’ second games comes a day after the San Beda University Red Lions take on the Arellano University Chiefs at 2 p.m., and the San Sebastian Stags meet the Mapua University Cardinals at 4 p.m.
