Drex “T-Rex” Zamboanga has been on a solid little run in ONE Championship, and he’s targeting his fourth straight win in his comeback to the ring.
Zamboanga returns to The Home of Martial Arts when he takes on “The Ghost” Chen Rui in a three-round bantamweight MMA bout at ONE Friday Fights 19 this June 2 inside Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
The 30-year-old Filipino has yet to drop a match in his three appearances in ONE Championship, starting with a submission win over Detchadin Srosirisuphathin before knocking out Rahul Raju in just the first round.
He then continued his winning ways when he rained down on the parade of ONE Warrior Series Philippines winner Adonis Sevilleno, beating the Team Lakay stalwart in his promotional debut in front of thousands of Filipinos inside the sold-out Mall of Asia Arena last December.
In that fight, Zamboanga displayed the full potency of his game, soundly outstriking Sevilleno before using his veteran skills to control the Cebuano en route to a unanimous decision win.
Against Chen, he’ll have to bring his entire arsenal once again.
Although the Chinese sensation has had an up-and-down campaign in The Home of Martial Arts, “The Ghost” has certainly proven himself in the division.
Chen has taken on some of the biggest names in Kwon Won Il, Jeremy Pacatiw, and Song Min Jong, while holding wins over Mark Abelardo and Ali Motamed. That’s why Zamboanga can’t afford to take him lightly.
A win here for Zamboanga would certainly put him in a better position in the loaded 145-pound division, where ONE Bantamweight World Champion Fabricio “Wonder Boy” Andrade sits atop the mountain.
Elsewhere in ONE Championship, Zamboanga’s good friend and former teammate Jeremy “The Jaguar” Miado will put his four-fight winning streak on the line when he takes on Mansur Malachiev at ONE Fight Night 11: Eersel vs. Menshikov on June 10.
