Kickboxer Saclag delivers PH’s 51st gold

PHONM PENH –Kalinga pride Jean Claude Saclag took the gold in kickboxing’s men 63.5 kg lowkick at the 32nd Southeast Asian Games here following a masterful beating of Cambodia’s Rakim San in the final on Monday at the Elephant Hall of Morodok Olympic Stadium here.

Saclag spent no time asserting his mastery of the fight game as he used all techniques from all possible angles to post a  3-0 shutout win over the hometown bet and rule the same even for the third straight time in the biennial meet

Saclag bagged the gold in the 2019 Philippines SEA Games and the in Vietnam in last year.

Earlier in the day, Fitzchel Fermato and Renalyn Dacquel both lost to their respective Vietnamese final foes to settle for silver each.

Fermato bagged the women’s light contact silver and Dacquel the the same color of medal in the women’s 48kg full contact.

The kickboxing team also had 10 bronze medals.

Four kickboxers will battle for golds Tuesday as they see action in the finals. They are Claudine Veloso in the women’s K1 52kg; two-time SEA Games champion Gina Araos  who competes in the 55kg women kicklight; Gretel De Paz in the women’s 56kg lowkick and Jeremy Pacatiw in the men’s 67kg K1.
