Getting point guard Aljun Melecio and big man Kris Porter fits well with the needs of the Converge FiberXers in the coming 2022 Philippine Basketball Association Commissioner’s Cup.

New coach Aldin Ayo said that with their presence, he is finally able to give the needed tweak to the Fiber Xers’ rotation.

“Aljun and Kris were added to the team for defensive purposes. Medyo kulang pa kami sa depensa, both sa small and big position,” said Ayo, who recently replaced Jeffrey Cariaso.

The 5’8” Melecio and and the 6’5” Porter were acquired from the Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters last Friday in a trade for Ben Adamos and Kurt Lojera. Melecio is expected to complement main man RK Ilagan.

Ayo added that the team’s performance was decent during their debut in the recent PBA Philippine Cup, where they made it as far as the quarterfinals.

With Porter around, the FiberXers will have more people in the middle to provide help to import Quincy Miller.

“We need another wide body to cover our import in defense,” said Ayo.

Melecio has reunited with Ayo, who coached him for two years when he was still handling the La Salle Green Archers in the UAAP from 2015 to 2017.

Team manager Chito Salud said the FiberXers did not have a bad season during their first year in the league, adding they have done better than expected.
