Olympic hopeful Rose Jean Ramos reigned supreme in the Asian Women’s Youth and Juniors Weightlifting Championships’ 45-kg event as she emerged with four golds, one silver, and one bronze medal on Monday night (PH time) at The Training Area in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Ramos, a 17-year-old student from Zamboanga City High School-Main, lifted 70 kgs in the Snatch and 85 kgs in the Clean and Jerk for a total of 153 kgs in a dominant performance that earned her a sweep of the golds in the youth category.

She got her 70 kgs after clearing the 65 and 67 in the snatch, while also getting 85 in the Clean and Jerk after three attempts. She cleared 81 and 83 kgs earlier.

Competing in the Juniors’ play of the same weight category, Ramos finished second overall in the Junior Women’s 45-kg category against seven other athletes.

She led the Snatch with 70 kgs for her fourth gold medal, while taking third place in the Clean and Jerk with 83 kgs. Her total of 153 kgs gave her a silver medal.

The previous day, Angeline Colonia, a 15-year-old prodigy from a family of Olympic lifters, opened the country’s campaign on a bright note after erasing the World and Asian youth records in her weight category to bag two gold medals and a silver.

Last June 13, Ramos was also victorious in the 2022 International Weightlifting Federation Youth World Championships, bagging two gold medals and one silver in the women’s 45-kg division.

The Barangay Mampang, Zamboanga City lass has ruled her division for three years in a row now, topping the online event hosted by Peru in 2020 and the 2021 version held physically in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia prior to her most recent achievements.

On the other hand, Ramos, who is coached by Allen Diaz, lifted 70 kgs on her third try in the snatch for a silver-medal finish. She rallied in the Clean and Jerk with an 85-kg effort for a 155-kg total, netting herself a pair of golds.

Trumpeted as one of the worthy successors of Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz, Ramos improved her total lift of 147 kgs she recorded last year during the youth world championships held in Leon, Mexico.
