Jenelyn Olsim is under no illusion that she’ll have it easy when she returns to the ONE Championship Circle.

The Filipina has a tricky test ahead of her, as she battles Julie Mezabarba in a three-round atomweight bout at ONE 158 on 3 June at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

Raring to make an impression after her foiled bid in the ONE Women’s Atomweight World Grand Prix, Olsim knows that things won’t be easy against the Brazilian. However, she understands that it’s something she has to go through if she wants to reach the top.

“Julie will definitely come in motivated. She’s also only starting to make a name for herself in ONE like me. I think she’s only fought twice,” Olsim said.

“She’s a good striker. She already fought Stamp in the Grand Prix. So I think ONE Championship definitely saw something in her, that’s why she [was] included in the Grand Prix.”

By beating Bi “Killer Bee” Nguyen in an alternate bout for the ONE Women’s Atomweight World Grand Prix, Olsim had the perfect opportunity to zoom up the rankings when she met Ritu “The Indian Tigress” Phogat in the semifinals after Itsuki Hirata withdrew.

It wasn’t meant to be for her, though, as the Indian wrestling powerhouse dominated her on the ground, resulting in a unanimous decision loss.

Like Olsim, Mezabarba also had a chance to compete in the semifinals, but she ultimately fell short against would-be tournament champion Stamp Fairtex.

With a chance to prove that she truly belongs among the upper echelon of the division, Olsim promises to come in determined and ready to turn heads once more.

“All I can say is that fans should expect me to leave an impression and [show] a more composed and intelligent version of me in this coming fight.”
