PLDT, the Philippines’ largest fully integrated network company, is giving its full support to the PLDT High Speed Hitters as they prepare for the 2022 Premier Volleyball League Open Conference.
Sports patron and PLDT chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan, PLDT Inc. and Smart Communications, Inc. president and CEO Alfredo S. Panlilio, PLDT and Smart Head of Sports Jude Turcuato, and PLDT Consumer Home Business Advisor Jeremiah De La Cruz met with the athletes and staff led by its multi-titled head coach George Pascua at the company’s headquarters in Makati.
“As a huge supporter of sports, it is our dream to have volleyball athletes to represent us in the Olympics. We want to help develop the nation’s volleyball scene, starting with our team. We also hope that they are proud to carry PLDT’s name when they hit the court,” said Panlilio.
When he asked Pascua about the outlook for the team, the veteran coach confidently answered, “Sa potential sir ng players, champion.”
Turning to the rest of the group in the boardroom, Panlilio said, “Champion daw, agree?” To which team captain Rhea Dimaculangan quipped, “Trust the process po,” earning a round of lighthearted laughs and banter in the room.
“We are excited to play, to see the arena, and to witness the fruits of our training,” Dimaculangan said. “We are super grateful for the opportunity to play for PLDT.”
The High Speed Hitters has welcomed new players and instilled a new system to boost the capability of the squad. “We had our training camp where we really bonded over TikTok, movies, or even when we monitored our tune up games and other activities,” reigning PVL Best Libero Kath Arado shared.
“Personally, I can say that we have a great team, especially inside the court. I don’t want to spoil anything, but we’re really looking forward to a great season,” middle blocker Mika Reyes added.
“We are thankful for the support given by PLDT, especially the company’s leaders. We want to meet the expectation of the company and the fans. Our goal, especially as their coach, is to bag the championship,” Pascua said.
