Adamson a win shy of sweep

ADAMSON University overwhelmed University of Santo Tomas, 86-43, to move to within a win of sweeping the first round Saturday in the UAAP Season 79 juniors basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Centre.

Gerry Abadiano had 21 points and four assists, while Encho Serrano added 16 points and seven rebounds as the Baby Falcons stretched their perfect run to six games.

In other matches, defending champion National University bested Far Eastern University-Diliman, 78-67; Ateneo blasted UP Integrated School, 79-55; while De La Salle-Zobel routed University of the East, 86-54.

Adamson University, which last ruled high school hoops way back in 1993, guns for the seven-game sweep against UE on Saturday at the same San Juan venue.

John Lloyd Clemente and Winderlich Coyoca teamed up for 29 points as the Bullpups won three straight to stay in second place.

The Baby Tamaraws, who drew 16 points from Jun Gabane, went down to solo third with their second loss in six matches.

Jason Credo finished with 15 points, while SJ Belangel chipped in 14 points, seven rebounds and three assists for the Blue Eaglets, who improved to 3-3 in fourth place.

Jan Sobrevega had a solid outing of 21 points, six rebounds and five assists as the Junior Archers moved in a tie with the skidding Junior Maroons at 2-4 in fifth spot.

The Junior Warriors and the Tiger Cubs bring up the rear with identical 1-5 slates.
