Abraham, Malihan dominate Subic marathon

KILIMO Abraham dominated the men’s division of the 42km Subic International Marathon 2016 recently at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone. 

He logged in a blistering time of 2 hours 37 minutes and 31 seconds in the lush-green, scenic, refreshing and tough course of the SIM. 

Following him in the finish line, located in the iconic track oval of Remy Field, was Eric Chepsinor clocking in a time of 2 hours 40 minutes and 45 seconds.

Third placer Joseph Mururi finished with the time 2 hours 46 minutes and 56 seconds.

In the 42km women’s division, Melanie Malihan dominated the competition with a time of 4 hours 34 minutes.

A far second was Vanessa Reyes, completing the whole course in 5 hours 13 minutes and 15 seconds. Close behind was Rosemarie Austria with a time of 5 hours 14 minutes and 40 seconds, rounding up the top 3.

Abraham and Malihan received a P15,000 cash prize, medals and bragging rights as the overall champion of SIM 2016. 

Second placers Chepsinor and Reyes received P8,000 and medals, while Mururi and Austria each received P5,000 and their bronze medals.

In the 21km, the men’s division was kept close until a few kilometers away when Elphiz Kiptarus pulled ahead and finished with a fast time of 1 hour 19 minutes and 17 seconds. Mark Penamante placed second with a time of 1 hour 22 minutes and 45 seconds; while Joey delos Reyes got into the Top 3 by finishing with a time of 1 hour 23 minutes and 52 seconds.

The female division of 21km was tighter as Ma. Christina Ticzon edged Rachel Duran with a time of 2 hours 9 minutes and 57 seconds. Duran finished with a time of 2 hours 10 minutes and 52 seconds. 

Third placer Daisy Visperas had a clocking of 2 hours 24 minutes and 18 seconds.

Cash prizes and medals were awarded to all 21km top winners.

The Fun Runs of 10km, 7km, 5km and 3km were held the following Sunday morning.

On its 11th year, SIM 2016 was organized by eXtribe, Inc., supported by Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority, Tekton Manufacturing Corporation makers of ProteinCare and Perfect Muscle, Salomon Philippines, Subic Bay Peninsular Hotel, Pacific Cross Health Care Inc., Public Safety Mutual Benefit Fund Inc., Slimmers World Subic, Cycles & Brew by Hubble and the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office.
