RULES concerning the attendance of the president and the chairman of a national sports association have been in place for the last eight years.

Philippine Olympic Committee president Jose “Peping” Cojuangco Jr. said this after boxing chief Ricky Vargas sought of a motion for reconsideration, and the candidacy of Tom Carrasco for the chairmanship of the POC has been put in question as well.

“It’s been there since 2008. This rule has been there since 2008. These are the two highest positions in the POC. The members feel that those holding the position of president and chairman should know everything happening in the organization,” said Cojuangco.

He explained that the provision contained in Article 7, Section 11 of the POC constitution and bylaws specifically called for the president and chairman of an NSA to be present at any of the meetings of the general assembly.

Vargas, who is the president of the Amateur Boxing Alliance of the Philippines, has filed a motion for reconsideration after the Philippine Olympic Committee’s three-man election committee, headed by Frank  Elizalde, disqualified him from running against the 82-year-old Cojuangco.
