Talk ‘N Text Katropa stay clean

STILL unscathed.

League-leading TNT Katropa hardly broke a sweat when it sent Phoenix back to earth with a resounding 124-117 dominance for its sixth straight win to continue its flawless campaign in the 2016 Philippine Basketball Association Governors’ Cup at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City Friday night.

Phoenix’s Eugene Phelps tries to score against Kelly Williams.

Asian import Michael Madanly produced his best game of his PBA career, leading the Texters with a team-high 30 points to spearhead his TNT’s charge.

Mychal Ammons also had a fine outing, scoring 22 points in his second game as the Tropa’s regular import, while Ranidel De Ocampo added 17 markers. Chris Rosales had 13 and Jayson Castro hit 11 for more firepower.

Talk ‘N Text improved further to 6-0 and remained the only team unbeaten as it moved closer to a berth in the quarterfinals, while Phoenix had its two-game winning streak halted and fell to 2-4 in the standings.

“Mike (Madanly) made shots to break the game open,” said coach Jong Uichico of his prized Asian reinforcement. “We had a defensive mindset in the second half and it worked. This is a good win for us. We want to win as many games as we can.”

The final score was closer than what actually transpired throughout the second half wherein the Tropang Texters completely imposed their will on the Fuel Masters.

After a tight first half that saw the teams tied at 52 at halftime, Talk ‘N Text suddenly stepped on the gas pedal hard come the second half as it broke the game wide open with a booming third quarter surge.

TNT Katropa turned in a burly third frame where it outscored the Fuel Masters 36-16 and take an insurmountable 20-points lead, 88-68, into the fourth to turn what was a close contest into a lopsided affair.

Eugene Phelps’ game-high 49 points weren’t enough for Phoenix as TNT’s collective effort still came out on top.

Phoenix Petroleum remained at bay and all it managed was make the final tally respectable with a brief run to end the game.

The largest lead for TNT was 26 points after Madanly’s triple with 7:49 remaining.

Today, two struggling longtime rivals face off as they are both in must-win situations.

Alaska and Star, teams tied near the bottom with their identical 1-4 cards, take on each other in a critical game as both squads are looking to move up to give themselves a good fighting chance to crack the top eight and make the quarterfinals.

The action shifts out of town as the Aces and the Hotshots take their act to Panabo City in Davao Del Norte.
