THE Rizal Memorial Sports Complex will undergo a facelift before the end of the year.

Philippine Sports Commission Chairman Ricardo “Richie” Garcia said plans are already afoot to improve the condition of the baseball field, while putting up additional facilities as well.

With more than enough cash in its present budget, the PSC plans to install an artificial turf in the baseball stadium, plus two squash courts near the tennis center.

More floor space will also be allocated to the gymnastics’ area so that athletes can train better.

A better weightlifting gym will also be put up by the agency.

“Approved na lahat ito. Ang kagandahan, hindi problema ang budget dito,” said Garcia, adding that the PSC currently has a budget of P1.4 billion, money it gained from six years of saving up.

The PSC chief said this is seed money for the purchase of land to be utilized as a national training center for athletes.

The same funds can be  used by  the new set of PSC officials in their grassroots program for national athletes preparing for international competitions.

So far, the agency will also leave behind a legacy of giving national athletes an increase in allowances through its priority program.

They have also provided incentives to athletes who have won medals in international meets and have helped differently abled athletes in their campaigns abroad.

Garcia is confident that the incoming Rodrigo Duterte administration will be able to order the new Philippine Gaming Corporation Chairman Andrea Domingo to give the PSC its 5% remittance from its gross income.

The remittance will strengthen the PSC’s budget and help strengthen the implementation of its many programs.
