Globe, HEAD give tennis a boost

GLOBE Telecom and HEAD Philippines formally signed up a partnership deal for the coming 17th HEAD Graphene XT Junior Tennis Satellite Circuit slated March 10 to June 7 in different places across the country to promote the sport and discover young talents.

On its 17th year, the annual junior tennis tournament has decided to expand from 11 to 17 legs this year.

“This momentous collaboration by the Philippines’ leading telecommunications company and the biggest name in sports equipment will lead in the grassroots tennis development program all over the country,” Liza Tang-Yuquico, managing director of HEAD Philippines, told the media during the event’s press conference recently at the Contis Restaurant.

Organized by the Dynamic Sports Corporation, the 17th HEAD Graphene XT Junior Tennis Satellite Circuit is supported by Chris Sports, Head ATP by Tennis Balls, Graphene XT, Toalson, Philippine Sports Commission and Philippine Tennis Association.

“At HEAD Philippines, we believe that we are molding a lot of young and talented individuals, who are just waiting for their chance to be the next Filipino tennis superstar as they gain points and win in local and international tournaments,”  said Tang-Yuquico.

The 17th GLOBE HEAD junior tennis circuit will kick off on March 10 to 14 in Davao City before moving to Sultan Kudarat on March 16 to 20, then in Cagayan De Oro City on March 22 to 26 and closes out its Mindanao campaign on General Santos on March 28 to April 1.

The Visayas campaign starts in Dumaguete City on April 5 to 9, before moving to Bohol on April 11 to 15, Cebu on April 17 to 21, Bacolod City on April 23 to 27, Iloilo City on April 29 to May 3 and Kalibo on May 5 to 9.

The Luzon campaign is set in Naga, Bicol on May 5 to 9, Pampanga on May 10 to 14, Olongapo on May 15 to 19, Urdaneta on May 20 to 24, Vigan on May 25 to 29, Baguio City on May 30 to June 3 and Manila on June 3 to 7.

“We want to discover the country’s next big local tennis sensations while harnessing the potential of up-and-coming young Filipino tennis players nationwide,” said Globe Vice President for Mobile Cluster Sales Albert Tinio.

“Participating in major sports activities is an avenue for us to manifest our desire to create a wonderful world for Filipinos. Because of their love for tennis, Globe would like to make inroads in the said sport through our team-up with HEAD Philippines on the Junior Tennis Satellite Circuit,” he added.

The competition is backed by HEAD, the leading worldwide tennis brand, and Chris Sports, the nationwide sports retail chain.

The singles and doubles events will be played in different age categories – 10-year-and under (unisex), 12-and-under (boys), 14-and-under (boys), 16-and-under (boys), 18-and-under (boys), 12-and-under (girls), 14-and-under (girls), 16-and-under (girls) and 18-under (girls).
