THE mission to find young and talented basketball players is on again.

The quest started last Saturday with a coaches’ clinic organized by the Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA Philippines 2015 at the British School Manila in Taguig City.

“Hopefully, the coaches can learn some new techniques,” said head coach Chris Sumner, who is overseeing the program for the second straight year.

The program is now on its eighth year in the country and is expected to reach out to more than 700 schools and communities nationwide.

Throughout the afternoon, Sumner gave pointers to coaches some  new tips on how to run a one-on-one defense and how to stop an opponent from shooting through a minimum amount of steps.

“So far, so good. We had had big turnout and we were shy of 300 coaches today,” added Sumner.

Former Ginebra coach Jeffrey Cariaso and incoming Lyceum Pirates mentor Topex Robinson were among the coaches, who assisted and participated in the two-day coaches’ camp.

More than 26,000 players and 2000 coaches have joined the program since it was launched in 2007.

NBA Philippines country manager manager Carlo Singson said the camps promise to be better than ever this year.

Baguio City is the newest destination of the program, and instead of just going to four cities, organizers plan to bring it to seven locations throughout the country this time.
