Lawyer Jose Malvar Villegas Jr., head of the JMV Film Production, which is making a movie on the life of Gen. Miguel Malvar, said that he felt overwhelmed when of Sen. Manny Pacquiao accepted the offer to play the title role in the movie Malvar.
“Instead of criticizing our choice, let’s unite for the sake of correcting our history and exposing the abuses of our former colonial masters that have plundered the Philippines for many centuries,” Villegas said.
Villegas, a grandson of Gen. Malvar and Founder-Chairman Emeritus of Citizen Crime Watch (CCW) also added that the presence of Imelda Papin, president of the Actors’ Guild as the line producer of the movie with award-winning writer-director Jose “Kaka” Balagtas as the director, and Florita Santos of Dreamwings Production Inc. as as co-producer, only emphasizes the fact that a lot of people are interested in this big screen project.
“The life and times of Gen. Malvar in the history belongs to the people and cannot be monopolized even by his immediate family as provided for in the Heritage Law and anybody can write or do a movie on the National Hero even without the consent or knowledge of his next of kin,” Villegas concluded.
