Shark Week returns with a sustainable cause

It’s that time of the year when the ocean calls on all shark enthusiasts as Discovery Channel brings Shark Week back with mind-blowing stories and innovative research technology to reveal compelling insights on some of the most unique shark species in the world.

Shark Week returns with a sustainable cause
‘Shark Week’ has been a TV fixture for more than 30 years. The annual programming block on the Discovery Channel features more than 20 hours of original programming, including an all-new movie about a terrifying real-life shark encounter.

Along with Shark Week, Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific (DNAP) is rolling out #WorldIsOurs campaign, which champions conservation and preservation by celebrating the beauty of life in all forms. By partnering with changemakers, conservationists and social entrepreneurs, Discovery hopes to drive the message of sustainable living across Asia, and how everyone can make a difference in their own way.

In the spirit of Shark Week and sustainability, Anna Oposa, co-founder of Save Philippine Sees has this to share, “One way to help sharks from land is to reduce our use of plastics and disposables. In the Philippines, we recently had a case of a dead whale shark with 40kg of plastics and sacks found in its stomach. The world is ours, and every positive act can make waves of change.”

Join Shark Week as it celebrates 31 years of all things sharks—Great Whites feasting on seals, secret hunting grounds, tiger sharks gatherings, the creation of a shark-suit, the story of the Megalodon—with  bigger and more adrenaline-pumping shark adventures. It’s definitely going to be a FINtastic and JAWsome week until today as Shark Week premieres on Discovery Channel.
