Many music lovers, especially those who favor R&B, soul, and pop,  would know David Bowden professionally known as Pink Sweat$; the rest will most probably recognize some of his songs – “At My Worst,” for example.

And to his fans in the Philippines, great news as the R&B and Soul artist Pink Sweat$ will be taking over the New Frontier Theater on September 27, 8:00 p.m. as Live Nation announces that the artist will bring his highly-anticipated Pink Sweat$ Pink Moon to Asia from September to October this year.

At a recent intimate online media roundtable, the Philadelphia-born artist and producer was kind enough and gamely gave this author and a few others a chance to get a little bit up close and personal.  Asked by if he wrote all of his songs, he said:

“Yes! I wrote all of my songs – I wrote the entire lyrics, put the melody for each line and I also produced all of my songs.”

The artist recently got married in August to his girlfriend Morgan “JL Bunny” and shared how he feels about this new change in his life.

“It feels so amazing. There are really not a lot of changes, as I (feel like) married my best friend, so we do things together, we have fun together, we go on vacation and do activities that we like. So it’s really been amazing,” he enthused.

Pink’s music is rooted in R&B and Soul, and is known for his melodic intricacy and lyrical prowess. He started making music at the age of 19 as a demo vocalist, and soon after found himself working at the legendary Sigma Sounds Studios where he began his career as a songwriter. After seven years of working behind the scenes, Pink Sweat$ launched as a solo artist in July of 2018. The rapid rise of his debut EP Volume 1 has earned him recognition from the New York Times, Rolling Stone, Billboard, and Fader.

Asked when he realized  that he wanted to be a musician, he told Manila Standard:

“I feel like I’ve always wanted to be a musician. When I was younger I thought I wanted to be a drummer and then as I got older I realized that so many people are better at drums than I am. So I asked myself: do I try to get better at drums or do something else? I  was around 15 when I knew for sure that (making) music is something I wanna do.”

As for his advice to up-and-coming musicians, especially the ones who look up to him, “Get to know yourself – what makes you smile? When you know what makes you smile, perfect it, perfect it, perfect it. And never be afraid to say ‘no.’ Sometimes, especially in the entertainment industry, things come so fast and it’s easy to say ‘yes.’ Never be afraid to say ‘no’ because ‘no’ is more powerful than ‘yes’ sometimes.”

Pink Sweat$ is set to perform in four cities, including Manila, Singapore, Bangkok, and Tokyo.

Pink Sweat$ Pink Moon in Manila will take place at the New Frontier Theater on September 27. Visit livenation.ph for more information.
