Mcoy Fundales hits romantic spot with new single

You may know Mcoy Fundales as the original vocalist of the popular band of the late ’90s to mid-2000s, Orange and Lemons, yet nowadays, a lot has been keeping the singer-songwriter busy. Quite recently he released a new single “Ang Forever Ko’y Ikaw,” under AltG Records, a sublabel of GMA Music.

According to him, he composed the song as a theme song for GMA’s romantic comedy series Ang Forever Ko’y Ikaw in 2018. Back then, the song was made up of only one stanza and chorus.

‘Ang Forever Ko’y Ikaw’ exhibits traces of Mcoy’s ‘croon-y’ side as an artist

“It took some time before I finally finished it. I want to put another stanza, arrange, and record it properly. Nandoon kasi ako sa point na naghahalughog ako ng mga unfinished song ko. I want to finish them for posterity and ito yung inuna ko,” Mcoy revealed.

“Ang Forever Ko’y Ikaw,” which is produced by Kedy Sanchez, A&R Manager of GMA Music, is about the serendipity of falling in love and instantly knowing that the person is meant for you.

“This one is like an ‘an old new song,’ he shared during a recent media conference. “I appreciate the need to sing what the audience wants or the current trends, however, I would still go back to my own style.  As much as possible I want to sing songs that are characteristically my style,” he added.

Fans of Mcoy and of the bands he was associated with would know that the artist has that distinct ‘croon-y’ side about him – in his own words, the Kundiman side of Orange and Lemons was him.

This new single, indeed, speaks of this style of his and directly talks to his audience. “Ang kantang ito ay para sa mga taong gustong magmahal at i-enjoy ang buhay, because that’s the stage where I am at right now.”

Mcoy, who is happily married with two grown daughters shared that he is over the moon now that his single is finally out this year, “I’m happy to release this song because this is close to my heart, and I have been thinking of releasing this for quite some time now. This song could have been released probably a year ago if not for the pandemic.”

Aside from this, he is also planning to release an album, “So far, I have already recorded two singles for AltG Records and I already have two more to go. An album is possible if I will be able to write, prepare and record around two more songs.”

Currently, he enjoys juggling being a songwriter and scriptwriter at the same time. Writing for TV and movies is still his focus now, according to him, “But music will always be with me. I can always write songs, either for myself or for another artist, or for projects. I am privileged to be able to record and release singles for AltG Records.”

At the conference, Mcoy was candid in sharing with the press that he was a late bloomer when it came to scriptwriting. He had always loved telling stories, and even back during the heyday of Orange and Lemons, whenever he wrote a song, it was always a story that he wanted to share. And always, one would notice his signature humor incorporated into whatever work he does, whether it is a song he wrote or a music video he has produced with the team. No wonder he is now one of GMA’s household names when it comes to creative writers.

He has been one of the main writers of Pepito Manaloto for seven years now.  He is one of the writers of Bubble Gang, All-Out Sundays, and quite recently, he was contracted for the most recent season of StarStruck.

“Ang Forever Ko’y Ikaw” is now available on all digital streaming platforms worldwide.
