Taguig City-based dance troupe Indayaw Dance Company won the grand prize at the first Dance 4 Peace Virtual Dance Competition organized by the International Peace Youth Group (IPYG) on Thursday, July 7, with a performance advocating for world peace.

Their number, inspired by recent global issues such as the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, features a young girl dreaming about being in conflict and inequality after watching news coverage of the Russia-Ukraine war and hoping for world peace and unity for future generations.

Apart from earning a trophy and a cash prize of P50,000, the Indayaw Dance Company will also sign a Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) with IPYG and become an official “peace messenger” for the group.

“Thank you for this opportunity po na may klaseng ganitong platform na pinapakita po ‘yung mga skills and talent po ng mga kabataan na ayun po ang nagiging center po dapat ngayon,” the group said in their victory message.

The Indayaw Dance Company, whose name came from the words “index” and “sayaw,” is based at Signal Village National High School in Taguig. The group performs various types of dances from folk to modern to contemporary and festivals and has won several championship awards from regional and division dance competitions.
