Concert goers and music lovers alike will experience the music of the ‘90s all over again on July 22, 8 p.m. in The 90s Live!.

It will be both a grand reunion and a musical treat as ‘90s music icons Wency Cornejo of Afterimage, Jett Pangan of The Dawn, Paco Arespacochaga of Introvoys, Cooky Chua of Color It Red, Medwin Marfil of True Faith, Dong Abay of Yano, Naldy Padilla of Orient Pearl, Perf De Castro of Rivermaya, and Lei Bautista of Prettier than Pink share the stage again as if it is the ‘90s again.

Throughout that decade, OPM (Original Pilipino Music) was never more alive. Bands ruled the airwaves with most radio stations playing Pinoy rock every hour. Evenings were spent shuffling from Mayric’s to Club Dredd to Yosh Café to catch the gigs of the country’s most popular rock bands.

'90s music artists Wency Cornejo, Naldy Padilla, Dong Abay, Cooky Chua, Paco Arespacochaga,Jett Pangan, and Medwin Marfil reunite in a concert

The 90s Live! is The Theatre at Solaire’s effort, among several, in support of and in championing homegrown musical artists. “We want to make The Theatre at Solaire the ‘home of concerts and musicals,’’ says Audie Gemora, Solaire Entertainment director. “Foreign acts have dominated the local concert landscape the past decade or so. We are committed to bringing back the heyday of OPM by being a venue to established as well as new artists.”

Gemora considers it a feat to have gathered the vocalists and musicians from the 90s rock bands for The ’90s Live! .

“It is a rare occurrence,” Gemora declares. “Whether you were a child of the ‘90s or not, this gathering of incredible artists and the chance to hear their now timeless hits is a show you cannot miss.”

It is probably because there are songs that never grow old or feel dated. The ‘90s rock music spoke to a whole generation about timeless themes like love (True Faith’s “Perfect”), friendship (The Dawn’s “Salamat”), and hope (Afterimage’s “Next In Line”). Much as they were anthems of the young, they were as well lamentations about a future that was uncertain and a present that was far from idyllic.

The public is assured of a good time reminiscing and jamming with the rock artists who will get as much kick from just performing together again in one vast concert venue.

“This is something I have dreamt about for several years now,” says Cornejo.

The Dawn with Jett Pangan is still very much a part of the local music scene. “It is an honor for us to take this ‘side trip’ of sharing the stage with some of the country’s greatest vocalists and musicians who have helped create timeless songs an entire family can rock out to,” he says.

Cooky Chua of Color It Red calls it “a chance to jam with good friends who are great artists as well.” Lei Bautista of Prettier than Pink believes that The 90s Live! is an “epic endeavor.”

Medwin Marfil of True Faith puts it this way: The 90s Live! is a testament to the fact that that decade was an awesome time for Pinoy Music/OPM.”
