Fans were surprised when they learned early this week that The World Between Us, which features the small screen reunion of Alden Richards and Jasmine Curtis Smith, was having a season break and the last episode before it goes off-air for two months will be tonight.
In a virtual conference attended by Alden and senior cast members Dina Bonnevie and Jaclyn Jose, series director Dominic Zapata explained why the fans will have to wait a little longer to know how the “epic love story” of Louie and Lia will end.
“First and foremost, safety really comes first. We really understand that as a network, as people the audience looks up to, we have to show the same kind of responsibility we expect from each and every Filipino,” the director told Manila Standard Entertainment.
“It’s a welcome break for all of us. It’s an opportunity for us to take a step back and for the actors to reassess their characters. It’s a nice break in the story where everyone, the characters, has already evolved,” he carried on adding that the show will return on Nov. 15.
The director also underscored that pursuing the show despite the ECQ will compromise its quality and integrity.
“We also understood na kung ipilit namin ito, we may be sacrificing a little too much in terms of not only our health but also probably the integrity of the show and that was also part of the consideration. Of course, foremost was everyone’s safety,” he pointed out
Meanwhile, Alden and Jasmine also see this development as a way to give their audience more reason to further fall in love with their characters. Like the director, the stars consider the two-month break as a way to give their respective roles a different flavor by examining their core and the direction that story is taking them.
“There are so many turning points that my character will have to face and that’s what we are trying to navigate. Louie is a character that doesn’t live in fantasy, he considers all the situation and the people around him. But just like in every story, everything will be resolved and I think that’s what people should expect in Louie as a character. ” Alden said.
“For me as an actor, this season break will allow me to recalibrate the maturity of my character. The story begins in 2011 and we jump into different timelines. And I don’t want to give the same interpretation of my character because as the story progresses, my character also matures,” Jasmine shared in a separate interview.
The World Between Us, which also features other star actors such as Tom Rodriguez, Sid Lucero, Kelley Day, and Alyanna Asistio, follows Louie (Alden) and Lia (Jasmine) who grow up together and find themselves falling in love yet the world around them is keen on keeping them apart.
