Laughter is still the best medicine

Doing an online chat with the cast of Bubble Gang was such a breather. Imagine they were your friends and you regularly zoom chat with them. It’s a guarantee that you’d forget all your worries brought about by the effective lockdown because they would make you laugh even in a bad situation.

On Monday, I had a chat with Paolo Contis, Valeen Montenegro, Sef Cadayona, Archie Alemania, and Lovely Abella, and it wasn’t hard to build rapport with them. Archie even asked me to sing a song for the group, a song from South Border. And of course, it was a joke, he just wanted to tease me that I look like Luke Mejares. Laughter burst out. My screen suddenly turned into a rowdy panel.

This Friday, Aug. 21, get ready to cap off the week with a fun and all-new episode of GMA Network’s longest-running and multi-awarded gag show, Bubble Gang.

In this brand new episode, viewers are in for fresh comedy sketches and the most hilarious parody videos.

“It’s an entirely different show since we are filming right in our own homes,” Valeen said. “We adapted to the new normal and we are trying to make it work to our advantage. We want to ensure that everyone is safe while creating good content.”

“One of the secrets of Bubble Gang, the reason why it’s stayed on air this long is that the show can adjust to the taste of the audience based on the situation we are in. The show is able to follow the trend,” Sef added.

Various online skits will be showcased in Zoom Gags, a series of rib-tickling gags about employer and employee meetings; Ranzoom, a kidnapping sketch via Zoom; Online Kasal, a comedic wedding done through video call; and The New Normal, a sketch about a family discussing the “new normal” way of living while in quarantine.

More good vibes are in store with Mang Tasyo, a monologue about popular acronyms since the quarantine; Inday Basher, a basher of Mr. Assimo;  G.M.T. Beki Edition, an old sketch dubbed using popular gay lingo; and Mr. Matapobre, featuring “Flashback Friday” clips of previous sketches.

“We have a good team that ensures that while we are doing it differently, it will still be funny. We didn’t compromise. If the scene required us to have full makeup and costume, we would do it. We are also extra careful with our material. We are back with fresh episodes not to offend anyone, we are back because we want them to laugh,” Paolo pointed out and added LJ Reyes will also amp up the fun this Friday night.

According to the gag show’s senior program manager, Cecille de Guzman, the scripts for Bubble Gang’s new episode were written in consideration of the fact that everything was shot from home “So that hindi ma water down ang sayang hatid ng cast. We’re thankful for everyone’s cooperation and passion.  It was super difficult for everyone but each one of them stepped up to the challenge.”

Michael V, who has already recovered after testing positive for the COVID-19 virus, will not be part of the show’s August episodes.

“We tested positive before we started taping for new episodes but he’ll be back in September,” the program manager of Bubble Gang said.

Round up the entire family and laugh out loud in Bubble Gang’s all-new episode this Friday, 10:00 p.m., after Meant To Be on GMA Telebabad.
