Singer Darren Espanto is turning 19 this year. And like everyone who has made the journey from child performer to young adult, Darren’s path was littered with stumbling blocks and cautionary tales. The only difference is, he faced it with relative ease.
At a very young age, Darren has been catapulted to superstardom after rising to prominence in joining the very first season of ABS-CBN’s The Voice Kids Philippines at the age of 12. As one of the main artists featured weekly on ASAP Natin ‘To, Darren is one of the country’s hottest young superstars with chart-topping singles, sold-out concerts, numerous awards, and multi-platinum studio albums to his credit.
With a positive aura, Darren faced the members of the entertainment press at a gathering where he was introduced as the newest member of Beautéderm Corporation’s growing family of brand ambassadors. During the junket interview, the teen singer was all cool and candid answering all the questions thrown at him. He was asked about his love life, his feud with a former pal and co-finalist in The Voice Kids, JK Labajo, his trending Instagram photos, his career, of course, including his non-inclusion in the latest season of The Singer 2020 in China.
Darren was supposed to go to China for the singing competition, The Singer, where he performed last year, but he had to forego the chance to be part of the show because of the coronavirus scare and the travel ban.
“It’s disappointing, but it’s for our own safety. I’m happy that I was able to guest in their show last year. They have already started airing, so I don’t think I can catch up. If the ban gets lifted I still hope to be part of it. We’ll just see what happens,” he explained.
As for his strained friendship with JK Labajo, Darren minced his words but went direct to the point when a scribe tried to bring the issue further. “I can’t comment on that, really. We haven’t seen each other for years. For any collab, wag na lang.”
Things got juicy when Darren was asked about his romantic status. The teen singer was smiling and answered the questions without holding back.
“It’s part of growing up. My parents are supportive naman as long as alam nilang matino ‘yung kino-court kung babae. Throughout my stay here in the Philippines,opo nagka-girlfriend ako. Lahat sila in showbiz,” were Darren’s exact words.
While he didn’t drop any names, the young singer just flashed his big smile when the names Ylona Garcia, Andrea Brillantes, and Kyline Alcantara were mentioned by the press.

Finalists of GMA drama scriptwriting workshop named
The most promising budding screenwriters have been selected by GMA Network to participate in its free Basic TV Drama Scriptwriting Workshop this 2020.
From thousands of applicants, the review panel has selected the final 70 participants who have exemplified great potential in screenwriting and storytelling methods.
Spearheaded by GMA Entertainment Group, the workshop will delve into television drama writing in the Philippine TV landscape and focus heavily on the structure of local television series.
The comprehensive workshop will run every Saturday for 10 weeks. The successful participants will eventually be given the privilege to be part of GMA’s Entertainment Group.
