Catriona Gray’s ‘Signature’

Apart from her signature walk, her beauty, and overwhelming presence, we’ve known Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray as someone who can talk for hours and discuss topics ranging from pageants to pressing issues confronting the country and our society, and from simple things like makeup to women empowerment.

Catriona can explore, in a witty way at that, many issues and subjects even in a very short interview. And without her even trying, you’d be mesmerized by her eloquence and wisdom—she’s just always in her element whenever there’s a mic in front of her and or there’s a recorder ready to capture her words.

Catriona Gray’s ‘Signature’

At the Smart Signature event held recently at The Fifth at Rockwell where she was introduced as the telco’s newest brand ambassador, Catriona once again charmed local reporters when they had a brief moment with the statuesque beauty queen.

Naturally, the questions were all about her emotional farewell speech during the Binibining Pilipinas 2019 pageant and the new batch of candidates who apparently didn’t do well in the question and answer round, which is obviously the 25-year-old Fil-Aussie’s favorite part of beauty tilts.

“It was a really emotional moment for me. Weeks going up to the pageant as well. To be honest, I didn’t know what to say! I’m thinking about it a lot because so much has happened this journey. I mean how do you put all that in such a short amount of time?” she said of her farewell speech.

“The message that I gave really came from my heart. It was really what I wanted to share and to see that it touched so many people, it’s even more overwhelming,” she added

Meanwhile, Catriona admitted that she was rooting for Vickie Rushton, who was the most decorated candidate of the pageant but stuttered during the Q&A round and failed to give a coherent answer.

“You know it happens. It’s a ‘grace under pressure’ environment. It’s a completely high nerve environment. If it’s your time, it’s your time. Who knows, she might make a comeback? I would totally root for her if she’s planning to join again,” she said.

Regarding the dreaded Q&A round, Catriona said there’s actually “no formula that you can apply to every single girl.”

“Honestly, the girl needs to be driven and see where her weaknesses are and build upon that,” she pointed out. “It’s really a unique thing. Every girl is different. Everyone has different strengths. It’s really the girl needs to assess where she’s lacking and build upon that.”
