They are this season’s sensation on all platforms, both on electronic and social media. They are called TNT Boys, not because they explode on stage, but their performances on both the stage and before the cameras, are explosive enough to earn them plaudits from both local audience and audiences anywhere they perform outside the Philippines.

But the abbreviation really stand for “Tawag ng Tanghalan” as the three of them were discovered in the It’s Showtime segment “Tawag ng Tanghalan” kids.

The TNT Boys have travelled the world to sing on foreign stages and TV shows. It won Your Face Sounds Familiar Kids”.this year.

The trio of Mackie Empuerto, Francis Concepcion, and Keifer Sanchez show no signs of stopping and say they will take on more projects before 2018 ends.

Mackie, Keifer, and Francis are also pulling all the stops for their first major concert titled Listen: The Big Shot Concert on Nov. 30 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Joining them are special guests Fantastica Vice Ganda, Jed Madela, K Brosas, and fellow Your Face Sounds Familiar Kids performers Chun-sa Jung, Esang de Torres, Krystal Brimner, Marco Masa, Noel Comia Jr., Onyok Pineda, Sheena Belarmino, and Xia Vigor.

They also performed for several heads of states, including President Rodrigo Duterte, Singaporean President Halimah Yacob, and Papua New Guinea Prime Minister Peter O’ Neill.

In October, the boys travelled to the US to compete in an international talent competition, which will air soon.

A book on Banuae rice terraces

A Banaue Story: Restoring a World Heritage Treasure, a coffee table book on the restoration of the world-famous rice terraces of Ifugao province, was launched on Nov. 12 at the Peninsula Manila.

The 265-page book is a testimony to the efforts of local farming communities in the province and the dedication of advocates in the preservation of the age-old architectural wonder often referred to as the: Eighth Wonder of the World, but which now faces alarming problems of degradation, neglect, and abandonment.

Apart from contributions from prominent personalities in the academe like Doctors Jesus Peralta, Ricardo Jose, and Bernadette Abrera, among others, the book, edited by former Philippine Daily Inquirer editor Ester G. Dipasupil, is replete with spectacular photographs of the terraces — declared a world heritage site by UNESCO– taken from all angles by noted photographers like Eduardo Masferre, John Chua, George Tapan, Alex Van Hagen, Albert Labrador,  Joey de Leon, Pet  Salvador, and P.J. Enriquez.

It also includes documentation and on-site step-by-step procedures on the current restoration efforts being undertaken by volunteers from the villages as well as soldiers of the Philippine Army, with the support of businesswoman and cultural heritage stalwart Dr. Milagros O. How, president and CEO of Universal Harvester, Inc.

The book ends with an appeal not only to stakeholders but Filipinos from all over as well to help save the terraces in ways they know best, before this beloved cultural icon vanishes completely from the landscape.
