Nerve Regeneration Therapy

Many athletes, and movie stars suffer from damaged nerves, thus making them immobile at times. Most of the time, they have difficulties in moving their legs or arms.

Nerve Regeneration Therapy (NRT) works using an advanced form of electrical stimulation combined with local pain injections. NRT sends its signal through the nervous system and awakens the sleeping nerves. By stimulating the nerves, damage from neuropathy can be reversed. NRT has been shown to have an 80 percent success rate and results are long lasting.

Neuropathy literally means “sick nerves.” When nerves become damaged, they either send abnormal signals when they are not supposed to, or they don’t send signals when they should. Neuropathy can occur anywhere in the body, but it is common in the lower extremities, and in particular, the feet. The abnormal signals sent by the nerves in these areas cause many uncomfortable symptoms, such as burning, aching, tingling, numbness, and others. No doubt you may be suffering from some of these symptoms right now.

Up until now, treatments have been focused on reducing the abnormal sensations using medications. These come with a number of undesirable side effects, and are not very effective. They do nothing to help the nerves function properly or repair themselves. They are also expensive, require lifelong treatment, and can interact with other medications.

NRT is new method of treating neuropathy, recently discovered and highly effective. It treats neuropathy without pills, without side effects, and actually restores the function of the damaged nerves. Many patients experience long-lasting relief from symptoms; even years after the treatments have been completed. NRT is actually a combination of two therapies that, when combined, achieve these results for many patients.

Peripheral Nerve Block when Medicinal Fluid is injected into the area around the nerves of the injury site.

This injected medication causes local blood vessels to dilate, allowing for better circulation around the nerves. With improved oxygen delivery to the nerves, their function begins to be restored.

PRP stands for Platelet Rich Plasma Treatment. This treatment has been around for more than 10 years but only recently gained prominence due to high profile athletes and personalities going for it. It is perfect for arthritic or orthopedic conditions.

The science behind it is simple. When you have a cut on your skin, it heals relatively fast. That is because the surface of the skin has numerous blood vessels running through it. In our blood, our red blood cells are responsible for healing and rejuvenation. However, when you have an arthritic or orthopedic injury, in your knee for example, it takes a very long time to heal, most of the time it never fully heals. That is because within the knee, there are not as many blood vessels running through it to carry that much needed nutrients and growth factors to promote healing. Hence you are left with an incompletely healed injury, which causes a prolonged and nagging pain.

Platelet Rich Plasma addresses this problem on all levels. First, the doctor diagnoses your injury using an ultra-sound machine. This enables the accurate diagnosis of the injury and narrowing down of the injury site. Then blood is drawn into a centrifuge. The blood is then spun in the centrifuge, which separates the Platelet Rich Plasma (a.k.a the ‘Good Stuff) from the Platelet Poor Plasma (a.k.a the PPP, the ‘not as good stuff). The PRP is rich in platelets, which are your reservoirs of growth factors and healthy cytokines, which are pivotal when it comes to healing and also promote regeneration.

An important point to note is that the efficacy of the treatment depends on the platelet count, which is essentially the concentration of the platelets. That is why at EMPIRE Center for Regenrative Medicine, the Harvest’s SmartPReP is used. It is the best in the industry. It increases the platelet count to 2 million platelets per micro litre.

The normal count in our blood is 200,000 per micro litre. For the treatment to be effective, the platelet count has to be 4 times greater than normal. There are many centrifuge systems out there but none are able to deliver the platelet count that the Harvest System boasts.

PRP has also become extremely effective and useful in the treatment of hair loss. Cutting-edge hair restoration treatment, utilize PRP to stop hair loss and promote the growth of hair follicles. After several treatments, patients experience greater volume in their hair as well as improved texture.

Prominent personalities whom have undergone and greatly benefitted from this treatment include, Kobe Bryant, Tiger Woods, Derek Jeter, Rafael Nadal and even the late Pope John Paul II.
