Everyone is happy that Carla Abellana and Tom Rodriguez are finally engaged. The couple who first met on the set of the groundbreaking soap opera My Husband’s Lover eight years ago recently spoke to the media to share this wonderful development in their relationship.
On Instagram, Tom posted his photo with his girlfriend in which Carla was wearing a diamond ring. He also accompanied this with a love quote from famous poet-politician Pablo Neruda which read: “I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where. I love you simply, without problems or pride. I love you in this way because I do not know any other way of loving but this…”
To this, Carla answered in a separate Instagram post: “A million times, Yes!” which signified her approval to her boyfriend’s marriage proposal.
The gorgeous tandem is actually going on their seventh year as lovers and they are very vocal in saying that they’ve finally found “The One” in each other.
Interestingly, Tom and Carla’s relationship became stronger during the pandemic. In an interview with the latter late last year, she admitted that the former moved to her house even before the quarantine was imposed.
They were together in the highly successful soap “Love of My Life” which recently had its curtain call. It can be remembered that the program was put on hold for some time because of COVID-19 restrictions. In almost eight months of being together, the couple had the chance to know each other better.
“In that span of time, I discovered many things about Tom,” Carla stated. “One is his being an all-around handyman. He was able to fix electrical work even plumbing! Our water pump malfunctioned twice and amazingly, he was able to repair it.
“Tom was also resourceful enough to use whatever we have at home to build, like a contrapment. I’m hat’s-off to him. Whether it’s electrical, plumbing or construction, he excels. Well, I guess we complement each other because, on my part, I’m the one who cooks!”

Now that his son Grae Fernandez is currently making waves in the ‘biz Mark Anthony Fernandez wishes that the former’s career will zoom further.
“I believe he got very good exposure in his recently-concluded soap opera ‘Ang Sa Iyo ay Akin.’ I really hope that this will be the start of more wonderful opportunities coming in for him,” says Mark.
What’s his dream for Grae?
“That he will be able to work with the industry’s finest directors and star in unforgettable potboilers. I think that’s a normal wish for any parent who has children in the acting field. In my case, I’m already 42 and everybody knows that I started in show business when I was thirteen years old. Now, I’m 42 and I can say that I’m happy with the movies I made during my heydays.
“I will never forget being under the helm of top-caliber directors like the late Maryo J. delos Reyes, Chito Roño, Jose Javier Reyes, Erik Matti, Rory Quintos, Lav Diaz, Brillante Mendoza, Tikoy Aguiluz and Jose Carreon. It’s a nice feeling to watch your past movies because you’re proud of them. That’s what I want for Grae. I’d like him to be proud watching his old movies again when he was young.”
As for himself, Mark is happy that Viva has already lined-up projects for him to do in the coming days.
“That’s right! In fact, these were for last year but had to be put on hold because of the pandemic. My guest appearance in the hit film ‘Miracle in Cell No. 7’ could’ve been the start but as I’ve said Covid-19 hit. So, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I’ll be able to appear in movies again.
“When it comes to TV, there are offers for me to do a teleserye. I’m in close contact with Ma’m Redgie Acuña-Magno of GMA. She told me that if I’m already ready to work, all I need to do is call her. I also miss working with the Kapuso since they take very good care of me,” he ends.
