Miguel Odron may not be a household name yet, but to those who staunchly supported his Idol Philippines quest wherein he became one of its top five contenders, loving him was not so difficult to do.

Speaking with an American accent, Miguel was probably the most eye candy among the male finalists who slugged it out in the Philippine incarnation of the original US singing competition. At first glance, his uncanny resemblance to James Reid was also another factor for the kilig triggered votes given to him during Idol Philippines.

Odron is a singer and a songwriter, with six anthems to his credit including “Chevy Cruz,” “Still,” and “Weed,” to name a few.

With a budding career, what’s going to happen now after his longish big reveal via his Instagram account that he is gay? Yes, you read it correctly, that’s Miguel’s confession is on his IG page.

“When I joined Idol Philippines, I made a conscious choice with the producers of the show not to address my sexuality. To be clear, I’ve never been ashamed of being gay. Everybody in my close circle knows and accepts me and anybody who does not is no longer in that circle. Star Music has known from the start and they have always supported and loved me for who I am,” he said in the photo caption.

“I made that choice on Idol not because I wanted to present a fake version of myself to all of you, but because I wanted your focus to be on my voice, my music and my writing. These are the things I truly value about myself. Being gay is as interesting to me as the number of hairs on my head or the size of my feet. I thought it would just be a distraction from the music,” he carried on.

Rising singer Miguel Odron came out on social media on the last day of Pride Month.

A Billy Joel song once said that “honesty is such a lonely word, everyone is so untrue,” Odron is living proof that only the brave and those who have positive self-love embrace what the song supposed to mean.

Miguel does not fit the “mold” of the usual gay man that we are familiar with. He has this matinee idol looks that are perfect for a BL series where characters portrayed by straight men fall in love and become sexually attracted to other men.

Without a doubt, being forthright about who he is, in Miguel’s heart of hearts, the pros outweigh the cons. He is also aware that once the curiosity and all the hoopla of him being gay simmer down, the genuine music aficionados’ main focus will be on his craft and the messages his songs want to convey.

Odron’s songs are fine samples of the many contemporary aspirations, longings, moods, and musings and are truly representative of the Generation Z demographic.

If you happen to be as astute and emotionally intelligent as his musical supporters, then by now, you know that bits and pieces of his truth puzzle, are being peeled off and are slowly and surely revealed in the lyrics of his composition. Some overt, others are in subtexts.

What more can I say except sending my biggest hugs to Miguel Odron. You are indeed a beautiful and talented young man.
