The Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (FFCCCII) led by President Dr. Henry Lim Bon Liong made an advance celebration of the ancient Chinese tradition of “Mid-Autumn Festival”, also known as the “Moon Festival” at a Thanksgiving luncheon for the media in Quezon City on Aug. 17.

Key people who attended the advanced "Mid-Autumn Festival" at a Thanksgiving luncheon for the media held on Aug. 17.

FFCCCII officers and their Public Information & Media Committee also hosted the playing of the traditional “pwa tiong chiew” dice game and gave away the festival’s mooncakes. Special guests who spoke at the occasion were Presidential Spokesman Secretary Salvador Panelo, Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Andanar, and China Embassy Counsellor Xie Yonghui representing Ambassador Zhao Jianhua.

Dr. Lim said that the annual Moon Festival, the eating and giving away of mooncakes represent happiness, thanksgiving and goodwill which the FFCCCII and the Filipino Chinese community hope to share to fellow countrymen all over the Philippines, in the same way the Chinese Lunar New Year and the eating of “tikoy” have now become part of Filipino lifestyle.

The Mid-Autumn Festival or Moon Festival is Chinese civilization’s ancient harvest festival which is held on the 15th day of the 8th month of the Chinese Lunar calendar, usually happening in late September or early October in the Gregorian calendar, and this date has the most beautiful full moon that night. This2019, the exact date of the Mid-Autumn Festival (Moon Festival) is Sept. 13.

This FFCCCII luncheon was an advance celebration to thank the support of media for its economic and civic causes, also to help promote this ancient festival of mooncakes and thanksgiving in the Philippines.
