BLOSSOMING. Young actress Kate Valdez wants to inspire young women to be comfortable in their own skin. 

She came to prominence with her titular role as Sang’gre Mira in GMA’s top-rating fantasy Encantadia in 2016 and has since then been making a name for herself.

The fresh-faced actress started modeling while still in grade school and subsequently joined amateur beauty pageants. She discovered her knack for acting when she started joining school plays.

Being in a society which favored celebrities and models with fairer skin, Kate confessed she struggled with being confident. The pressures of the industry led her to try to change herself by using products to achieve whiter skin until she learned how to embrace her brown skin and love herself for who she really is.

As she turns 18 and becomes a full-fledged lady on Aug. 21, the pretty GMA Artist Center star seeks to inspire her fellow morena women to recognize their beauty beneath their physical appearances.

She affirms this in having the right attitude that brings out her likewise beautiful personality, “I realized that the color of your skin doesn’t define beauty, it’s what inside you, your character. Just be who you are. Most importantly, it’s your confidence and your love for yourself.”

Kate also revealed she is looking forward to being the woman she’s always wanted to be. As a step, she is learning to make wiser decisions for herself.

“I can be indecisive at times. I become conscious and I worry when I decide on my own. Right now, I let my mom to make decisions for myself na alam niyang makabubuti rin sa akin para natututo ako. This is how I become a mature and a confident woman,” she related.

Starring in GMA Network’s newest primetime series Onanay, Kate portrays the bida-kontrabida role of Natalie—a spoiled, arrogant girl who thinks highly of herself. She is ashamed of her mother Onay’s physical appearance, which is why she often takes out her frustration and anger on her.

“Until now, I still can’t believe that I’d be able to act and do a scene with people I used to watch on TV. It feels surreal. The pressure is there but I try my best na wag magpadala doon. I use it as a motivation to do my best. My co-stars are also a huge help,” Kate talked about being part of the show.

Unlike her fierce persona on screen, the young actress shared she is just a simple girl with big dreams ahead of her. She aspires to do more modeling stints and to further hone her craft as a versatile performer. With her striking features and innate intelligence, it is no doubt that Kate also wants to become a beauty queen in the future.
