The Kapuso in the US had a captivating Fil Fest USA, with Miss World 2013 Megan Young who graced the occasion on Oct. 14 in Virginia.
Organized by Fil Fest USA LLC with the participation of GMA Pinoy TV, the event was a celebration of Filipino-American culture at the Norfolk Waterside District in Virginia. The presence of beauty queen Megan Young was the highlight of the whole day affair, which honored the region’s Filipino settlement and story through dance, music, food, and the arts.
Other highlights includedcultural performances from regional and local artists, as well as exhibits showcasing Filipino products and top destinations courtesy of the Philippine Department of Tourism.
More than 7,000 attended the event including members of various Filipino-American youth organizations, namely, the Filipino Young Professionals of Washington DC (FYP-DC), Filipino Intercollegiate Networking Dialogue, Inc. (FIND), and Filipino-American Student Organization (FASA), and neighboring states such as Washington DC, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia.
In line with the Filipino-American History Month, Fil Fest USA also served as a venue to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Naval Air Station in Norfolk, as well as the 75th Anniversary of the Bataan Death March in the Philippines. A Parade of Lights took place to honor the Filipino World W ar II veterans, and a Congressional Gold Medal will be given to the survivors or the closest relatives of deceased veterans.
