Yhuan ‘Gold’

There is sure promise in an 18-year-old boy with commendable talent and good looks, and whose single makes it to Spotify’s Fresh Finds Philippines playlist.

The artist is named Yhuan. His song is called “Gold,” not the classic from Spandau Ballet, but something indestructible on its own.

The track, dropped on digital stores last Friday (February 24) is one he himself composed and recorded in, well, just two days.

Widescope Entertainment may have struck gold when it signed Yhuan, a music producer who is also a commercial model and dancer. Upon quick digging, it appears that the young man with a bright future ahead of him had appeared in a Shopee advertisement with the iconic Jose Mari Chan. He also won second place in the Weaver Beats Remix contest.

Yhuan is a music producer who goes all the way when making songs

A music technology major from the University of Santo Tomas (UST), Yhuan counts on momentum when he’s crafting a song. On “Gold” he chose not to let go until it was finished.

“I started piecing together a story about someone feeling down, yet thrilled when he suddenly sees this person who ends up giving him great luck,” expressed the discovery from the province of Bulacan.

Yhuan is heard singing and playing synths on the recording executive produced by Widescope’s Vic de Vera and supervised by the label’s entertainment director Neil Gregorio. Widescope A&R manager and A-list singer-songwriter Ebe Dancel and mix and master specialist Dante Tanedo were also on board.

“Gold’s,” described as groovy, and swingy with a touch of hip-hop, banks on a chorus that says, “Who on Earth gives a damn about gold?/ Oh if love’s much brighter than diamond and it never gets old/ Girl you’re worth everything that I own/ I don’t mind it if I bet it all and lose/Cus Darling I got you.”

The baby-faced Yhuan pointed out that the song’s protagonists “realized that even if they lose it all, they (are) enjoying the company of each other more than anything.”

For his musical influences, he name-dropped Ed Sheeran, Porter Robinson, and Jon Bellion.

Yhuan said that he wrote “Gold” by way of a songwriting exercise “we had with my friends from the Philpop Digicamp.” The given theme is gold and dance-related.

He added, “I also looked for gambling terms to fit the theme of gold and related it to money, possessions, and love.”

This boy, who also has another song out in the digital realm called “Pabalik Sa’yo,” is born-ready. At 18 he believes that now is the time and he doesn’t have to wait until he reaches a certain age. Simply put he’s young, dynamic, and daring. “Above the highest building while we touch the clouds and high we went,” he stated in the lyrics of “Gold.”

Right in the track’s opening verse, he already makes himself clear by singing, “Cards shown, and I’m betting it all, there’s no way I’m going back right now.” On a Facebook post early last month he thanked his supportive mother and promised, “More commercials to come and music to produce.” https://orcd.co/yhuan_gold
