Netflix’s hit series Alice in Borderland released the trailer for its second season with its official premiere date, December 22.

During Netflix’s Japan Tudum, the Sci-fi Thriller series’ release date was announced alongside the streamer’s other new Japanese shows, such as the live adaptations of Kimi ni Todoke: From Me to You and The Makanai: Cooking for the Maiko House.

“The first season was great, but the second season takes it further. I think the audience will enjoy it a lot,” one of the original cast members, Sho Aoyagi, said during the cast announcement of the second season.

Most of the series’ original cast were to return in the new season, such as Kento Yamazaki, Tao Tsuchiya, Nijiro Murakami, Ayaka Miyoshi, Dori Sakurada, and Aya Asahina.

The trailer also introduced new characters, including Tomohisa Yamashita, Hayato Isomura, and Honami Sato.

Alice in Borderland draws inspiration from a manga illustrated and written by Haro Aso. The story focuses on the life of Arisu Ryohei with others who are transported to another parallel dimension called the Borderlands, where they have to survive and complete different deadly games to prolong their lives and find their way out of the game.

The second season will pick up on the first season’s last episode, where Arisu and other survivors have to face the game masters and new challenges in hopes of returning to their lives.
